Among the hills of the Langhe

Bubbio, the lesser known Langhe

The Langhe, or the Langa as we say in Piedmont, is one of the most famous areas in Italy and abroad for the hilly scenery and the vineyards.

It’s a must for rich bodied and appreciated  wines – Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto are some examples – and the rich gastronomy, on which dominates the white truffle of Alba, in addition to fresh pasta dishes, such as agnolotti (filled pasta similar to ravioli) and tajarin, or high quality meats.

Since 2014, the Langhe are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Alba, La Morra, Barbaresco, Barolo are the names of some of the most famous villages.

We propose Bubbio, not far from the most popular places but off the beaten track, authentic and peaceful.

Bubbio is an ancient village with historic houses, a castle of medieval origins and baroque churches. It’s surrounded by hills with lush vegetation, vineyards, cherry trees and hazelnut woods.

It is a few kilometers far from interesting cities like Alba or Canelli to the north-west, Acqui Terme, with thermal water sources, to the east, or, to the south, Roccaverano, home of the excellent goat cheese robiola.

The country farmhouse Tre colline in Langa

In Bubbio there is Tre Colline in Langa (meaning three hills in the Langhe): a special country farmhouse where we organize our stays and discover the Italian language and the nearby area.

It is so called because it is surrounded by three hills in which the owners, Paola and Massimiliano, were born and grew up.

Tre colline in Langa has been converted from an ancient farmhouse dating back to 1830 and from its stable.

Paola Arpione is an “agrichef”, or a farm cook: she grows vegetables in her garden and enjoys herself preparing and inventing dishes. Her cuisine is based on the local tradition, paying particular  attention in seasonal products, genuine and local ingredients.

Paola loves her work and loves telling and explaining her specialties. Her recipes are accompanied by selected local wines. All of high quality.

Lunches and dinners are served in the charming hall with brick ceilings, crossed vaults and stone walls.

Outside there is a delightful garden, adorned with rose and lavender bushes: the ideal spot for a relaxing aperitif.

The farmhouse has a mini apartment and three double bedrooms, equipped with all the facilities for a comfortable stay.

On the first floor there is a bright room from which you can admire the magnificent view of the hills.

Here we will meet in the morning and begin our journey to the knowledge into the Langhe and the Italian language.

And here we will meet again in the evening, after the explorations of the surroundings.

We will tell each other what we have learned, sipping an aperitif or a fresh beer.
